“And Now, The Rest Of The Story:” The Story of Noah and the Ark Portrayed in Movies and TV Shows Is Not Entirely the Same as It Is Told in The Book of Genesis

PLEASE TEST EACH BLOG I POST WITH STUDY, RESEARCH, AND PRAYER. JUDGE MY WORDS AGAINST THE WORD OF GOD AND THE SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE AND THEORIES I USE TO SUPPORT MY STUDY TO ENSURE MY THOUGHTS AND OPINIONS ARE IN ALIGNMENT WITH BOTH THE BIBLE AND SCIENCE.

Since I was a child, whenever I saw a film or television program about Noah and the Ark,[1] I always believed that there were only two of every creature when the animals boarded the ark. Well….

“And Now, The Rest Of The Story….”[2]

Well.…, the story of Noah and the Ark portrayed in movies and TV shows is not entirely the same as it is told in the Book of Genesis, chapters 6-9. There was indeed a grouping of creatures that came in two, but they were “animals that are unclean, a male and his female.”[3]

If you read the complete verses in Genesis 7:2-3, it actually says –

2 You shall take with you seven each of every clean animal, a male and his female; two each of animals that are unclean, a male and his female; 3 also seven each of birds of the air, male and female, to keep the species alive on the face of all the earth.”

So, you see, what we have been led to believe about Noah and the Ark by the media and some pastors is an example of why it is essential to study your Bible. Furthermore, this supports why we need to do as the Apostle Paul told Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV) – “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

Why must we as Christians need to “study to shew thyself approved unto God?”[4] Because….

“My People Are Destroyed For Lack Of Knowledge”[5]

The Evangelist Matthew. Artist Unknown. 9th century.

Because…., as Hosea wrote in Hosea 4:6 (NKJV) –

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.”

This verse is filled with much more information I will not write about now. For brevity, I will only concentrate on the two sentences I have underlined. The reason why we must study the Bible and challenge what people, such as myself, tell us and what we see in popular media is that we are representatives of Christ Jesus, like a priest. If we are ignorant about God’s Word, how can we tell others about the truth of the Bible? Or plant the seed of the Gospel, which the Holy Spirit uses to lead people to salvation?

To answer these two questions, I will use the words the Holy Spirit inspired Solomon in Proverbs 9:9, Proverbs 18:15, Proverbs 25:2-3, and the Apostle Peter wrote in 2 Peter 3:18:

Proverbs 9:9:

“Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; Teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.”

Proverbs 18:15:

“An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.”

Proverbs 25:2-3:

2 It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, But the glory of kings is to search out a matter. 3 As the heavens for height and the earth for depth, So the heart of kings is unsearchable.

2 Peter 3:18:

“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.”

The Reason Why God Had Noah Board 7 Clean Creatures On The Ark

Genesis 8:20-22 explains that after The Great Flood subsided, and Noah, his family, and all the creatures left the ark, Noah sacrificed one clean animal to praise and respect God’s judgment.

20 Then Noah built an altar to the Lord, and took of every clean animal and of every clean bird, and offered burnt offerings on the altar. 21 And the Lord smelled a soothing aroma. Then the Lord said in His heart, “I will never again curse the ground for man’s sake, although the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; nor will I again destroy every living thing as I have done. 22 “While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, Cold and heat, Winter and summer, And day and night Shall not cease.”

If there were only two of every creature on the ark when Noah made his offering to God, that would have meant none of the remaining clean animals could have procreated to repopulate the Earth.

What Does This Have To Do With Prophecy And Eschatology?

To truly understand what Jesus, the prophets, and apostles have told us to be aware of and beware of, we must be students of God’s Word! The analogy I like to use is what I wrote in my master’s thesis titled Eschaton Transition: The Multiverse and Non-Terrestrial Entities in Popular Media, Science, and Biblical Eschatological Prophecy:

“Before you can solve your first math equation, you must learn numbers. After you have mastered numbers, the next step is to learn simple mathematics – addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Once you have grasped that, you can advance to solving more complicated math like algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics, etc. And after that comes complex math. Depending on how far you want to be competent in math, it is up to you, and the same is true with God’s word.”[6]

If you truly want to understand and know the signs to look out for regarding prophecy and eschatology, The End Times, like what Jesus told us in Matthew 24:1-8 (NKJV) –

Jesus Predicted the Destruction of the Temple (The Olivet Discourse: Matthew 24:1-2):

1 Then Jesus went out and departed from the temple, and His disciples came up to show Him the buildings of the temple. 2 And Jesus said to them, “Do you not see all these things? Assuredly, I say to you, not one stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown down.”

Destruction of the Second Temple in 70 CE:

“After the destruction of the First Temple in Jerusalem by the Babylonians in 586 BCE, the Jews of the Kingdom of Judea went into exile. In 538 BCE during the reign of Cyrus the Great, the Jews returned to Jerusalem and were able to build the Second Temple on the site of the original one that had been destroyed. Secular accounts place the completion of the Second Temple in approximately 516 BCE but some Jewish sources date the completion much later in 350 BCE. Herod the Great rebuilt the Temple in 20-18 BCE. The Jews led a revolt and occupied Jerusalem in 66 CE initiating the first Roman-Jewish war. In 70 CE the Romans reclaimed Jerusalem and destroyed the Second Temple with only a portion of the western wall remaining (though recent archeological discoveries date portions of the wall to later periods). The Western Wall remains a sacred site for Jews.”[7]

The Signs of the Times and the End of the Age (The Olivet Discourse: Matthew 24:3-13):

3 Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?” 4 And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. 6 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows. 9 “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. 10 And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. 11 Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. 12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.

The Great Tribulation (The Olivet Discourse: Matthew 24:15-28):

15 “Therefore when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place” (whoever reads, let him understand), 16 “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17 Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his house. 18 And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes. 19 But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! 20 And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath. 21 For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. 22 And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened. 23 “Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There!’ do not believe it. 24 For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 25 See, I have told you beforehand. 26 “Therefore if they say to you, ‘Look, He is in the desert!’ do not go out; or ‘Look, He is in the inner rooms!’ do not believe it. 27 For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 28 For wherever the carcass is, there the eagles will be gathered together.”[8]

I want to request that you think about this: if church leaders and the media are telling half-truths about the Bible or what they believe you want to hear to encourage you to continue coming to their church and fill their pockets, like the story of Noah and the Ark; how can you be prepared for the things to come, like Noah?

Jude, in his letter to friends in Jude 1:3-4 (NKJV), wrote about this:

Contend for the Faith:

3 Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. 4 For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.”[9]

Jesus even warned us in Matthew 24:23-25

23 Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There!’ do not believe it. 24 For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 25 See, I have told you beforehand.

Prayer for Spiritual Wisdom (Ephesians 1:17-18):

17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18 the eyes of your [f]understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints.”

Please challenge everything I have written in this blog by studying your Bible and pray that the Holy Spirit will open your eyes and heart to His message and warnings regarding the End of Days.

Here is the sinner’s prayer if you are moved to give your life to Christ, and please send me an email if you would like me to say a prayer for you –

Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner and ask for Your forgiveness. I believe You died for my sins, rose from the dead, and are now sitting at the right hand of God the Father. I turn from my sins and invite You into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as my Lord and Savior. In Your Name. Amen.”
